Diagnosis. Diplommatina canaliculata is characterized by a slender, medium-sized shell with distinct extensions of the peristome, a prominent columellar lamella and widely spaced ribs.

Shell ( Figs 39–40 View FIGURES 38 – 40 ; Table 1). Dextral; spindle-shaped with slender conical early whorls and a narrowed last whorl; with 7.0–7.75 whorls separated by a deep suture; protoconch smooth; teleoconch with ribs (24–33 on the penultimate whorl; fewer on the last whorl); with or without discernible spiral striae between the ribs; light corneous; subtranslucent; last whorl rounded, with a ventral constriction; aperture subangular, angular at the transition from columellar to basal side; upper insertion of the peristome distinctly ascending towards aperture; insertions of the peristome connected by a distinct callus; peristome distinctly expanded, usually with 2–3 blunt processes, thickened, doubled; aperture with a prominent columellar lamella; with a parietal lamella, a short spiral palatal fold in the middle of the whorl and a radial palatal fold ventrally inside the last whorl; umbilicus closed; operculum thin, corneous, circular, paucispiral. Shell height 3.05–3.8 mm, shell diameter 1.2–1.7 mm (measurements of specimens from Java).

Remarks. Diplommatina ornithorica ( Fig. 39 View FIGURES 38 – 40 ) differs from D. canaliculata from Malaysia ( Fig. 40 View FIGURES 38 – 40 ; shell height 3.9–4.9 mm, shell diameter 1.75–2.0 mm) and Borneo (shell height 3.2–4.2 mm, shell diameter 1.3–1.6) only in the on average smaller shell. Therefore, we synonymized D. ornithorica van Benthem Jutting, 1948 with D. canaliculata Möllendorff, 1887 .

Habitat. In leaf litter and on limestone rocks in plantations and secondary forests on calcareous soils at 11–795 m a.s.l.

Type material. Malaysia: Malakka, Bukit Pondong, Perak (lectotype of D. canaliculata [designated by Zilch 1953] SMF 105394; paralectotypes of D. canaliculata SMF 105395/5, 105396/2).—Indonesia, Java, West Java: Bogor, Ciampea, Mt. Cibodas, 300 m a.s.l., 6°33'S 106°41'E (holotype of D. ornithorica ZMA 135961).
