Type Locality: South Africa, Western Cape Prov., Compagnies Drift, 16 km inland from Lamberts Bay.
Vernacular Names: Van Zyl's Golden Mole.
Distribution: Known only from the type locality.
Conservation: IUCN – Critically Endangered.
Discussion: Considered a subspecies of wintoni by Ellerman et al. (1953); however, Meester et al. (1986:18) and Helgen and Wilson (2001) argued for specific status.
