Type material examined. Holotype female, 2 female and 1 male paratypes ( IRSNB) from Caluromys derbianus, PANAMA: Panama Prov., Aguacate, Capira , 08°48'S, 79°51'W, 25 January 1980, coll. Files. GoogleMaps

Holotype deposition. The holotype is deposited in IRSNB.

Non-type material examined. One female ( IRSNB) from Caluromys derbianus, PANAMA: Santa Rita Prov., 24 November 1971, coll. Bowdre.

Etymology. This species name is the Latin adjective similis (same) referring to the great morphological similarity of this species with Listropsoralges marmosae .

Differential diagnosis. This new species is discernible from Listropsoralges marmosae by a few features. In females of Listropsoralges similis sp. n., the body length is 250–265 (vs. 205–210 in L. marmosae ), setae 1a are 3 wide at the base (vs. 6 wide in L. marmosae ), setae h3 are 1.8 and 1.2 times longer than setae ps2 and ps3, respectively (vs. 3.3 and 2.6 times longer than setae ps2 and ps3, respectively in L. marmosae ). A single male specimen of L. similis is in bad condition and additional specimens are necessary to provide a differential diagnosis for males.

Host range and distribution. This species is only known from the type host Caluromys derbianus from Panama (present paper) .

Remark. These mites were assigned previously to Listropsoralges marmosae ( Bochkov & Wauthy 2009) .
