Chimarra soloi sp. nov.

( Figs. 4–6 View FIGURES 1 – 9 , 35–37 View FIGURES 23 – 35 View FIGURES 36 – 41 , 42–43 View FIGURES 42 – 51 )

Diagnosis: The male genitalia of Chimarra soloi sp.nov. closely resembles C. ariadne Malicky 1997 from Andaman and C. assamensis Kimmins from Assam ( India). They are much closer to those of C. ariadne in dorsal view. However, Chimarra soloi sp. nov. is distinct as its inferior appendages in lateral view are directed dorsad, are wider basally and narrowing distally and subacute apically, while inferior appendages are straight and almost parallel to the lateral lobes of segment X in C. ariadne . The shape of segment IX in lateral view is also different as its produced anteroventral margin is rounded in lateral view in C. soloi but is trapezoidal in C. ariadne . The phallic apparatus of C. ariadne has a pair of subequal apical endothecal spines in dorsal view, whereas C. soloi has a long and a short subapical endothecal spines. In its possession of a narrow segment IX (in lateral view), the new species is close to C. assamensis , but the sclerotized lateral lobes of tergum X are divergent in C. soloi and almost double the length of the mesal lobes of tergum X (in dorsal view), whereas in C. assamensis the sclerotized lateral lobes of tergum X are convergent and almost equal to the mesal lobes of tergum X in dorsal view.

Description (male only): Length of forewing 7.25 mm (n=8). Body in alcohol entirely fulvous except for forewings sprinkled with yellowish patches. Body covered with dense, short and fulvous pubescence. Maxillary palps short, 1.3 mm long (n=8), segment 3 distinctly longer than 2; labial palps 0.97 mm (n=8). Forewing venation: stem of Rs curved, enlarged at inflection; fork at base of discoidal cell distinctly thickened, length of discoidal cell about 2 times width; crossvein m proximal to crossveins s and r-m; vein 2A intersecting 3A ( Figs. 42, 43 View FIGURES 42 – 51 ).

Male genitalia ( Figs.4–6 View FIGURES 1 – 9 , 35–37 View FIGURES 23 – 35 View FIGURES 36 – 41 ): Segment IX in dorsal view short; in lateral view with tergum produced anterad in pair of subdorsal lobes, anterolateral margins concave, posterolateral margins nearly straight, sternum long and quadrate and bearing long posteroventral process; tergum in dorsal view short. Tergum IX short dorsally; anteroventral margin in lateral view produced, posterior margin nearly straight; posteroventral process projecting posterad, elongate. Inferior appendages each in lateral view directed posterodorsad, wider basally and narrowing distally, apex subacute; in caudoventral view curved laterad to acute apex. Tergum X with sclerotized lateral and mesal lobes; each lateral lobe bifid at apex, turned upward in lateral view; each mesal lobe short, in dorsal view bifid apically and in lateral view triangular. Each preanal appendage setose, short and wart-like. Sclerotized portion of phallic apparatus long and cylindrical; phallobase tubular, with pronounced basodorsal expansion, slightly expanded apically, ventral margin slightly bulged basally, ventral apex distinctly sclerotized in lateral view ( Fig. 35 View FIGURES 23 – 35 ); retracted endotheca length not discernible, with 3 long and broad endothecal spines, the apical one longer and thinner, 4 microspines also visible in lateral view in retracted phallotheca; phallotremal sclerite complex just visible, very diminished in lateral view but clearly visible in dorsal and ventral views ( Figs. 36–37 View FIGURES 36 – 41 ), small, broad, rounded anteriorly and pointed apically.

Female: Not known.
