Type Locality: "in Africa." Restricted by Thomas (1911 a:149) to "Barbary;" and by Cabrera (1932:217) to Agadir, Morocco .
Vernacular Names: Barbary Ground Squirrel.
Synonyms: Atlantoxerus praetextus Wagner 1842 ; Atlantoxerus trivittatus ( Gray 1842) .
Distribution: Grand and Middle Atlas south to Agadir and N edge of Sahara ( Morocco), NW Algeria.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
