Daemonorops Blume View in CoL in Roemer & Schultes (1830:1333)
Calamus fissilis Henderson et al. (2008: 192) and C. nuichuaensis Henderson et al. (2008: 196) were based on incomplete specimens. Recently we have collected more complete specimens of both species. These have the inflorescence rachis bracts splitting to the base and becoming deciduous, and fruits with ruminate endosperm. These two character states are not found in Calamus , but are common in Daemonorops , and therefore we transfer both these species to Daemonorops . Based on the deciduous, splitting rachis bracts, the two species appear to belong to section Piptoshatha Beccari (1911: 27).
