This species was originally introduced as Pleurotoma cancellata Eichwald, 1830 . Later Andrzejowski (1833) transferred it to Fusus . Finally Eichwald (1852, 1853) treated it as Cancellaria and introduced the replacement name notabilis for the preoccupied Cancellaria cancellata . We have not seen any original material but the illustrated specimen might belong to another gastropod group.
