Genera Neopetrosia de Laubenfels, 1949 View in CoL
Petrosiidae with finely hispid surface produced by fine brushes of oxeas issued from subectosomal tracts, and a compact choanosomal network combining rounded meshes with a superimposed anisotropic reticulation. Megascleres oxeas, mostly less than 200 µm long (modified from Desqueyroux-Faúndez & Valentine 2002).
Remarks. We chose to acknowledge that oxeas in Neopetrosia spp. are frequently over 200 µm long, after a series of new species had been added to the group possessing oxeas quite larger than this limit defined in the Systema Porifera (i.e. up to 300 µm; e.g. Van Soest et al. 2014; Zea et al. 2014; Vicente et al. 2019).
