Distribution: S Canada, Mexico, Panama, USA (except parts of the Rocky Mtns). Introductions into: Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Russia, Switzerland, Uzbekistan.

Conservation: IUCN – Extinct as P. gloveralleni, Endangered as P. insularis , P. maynardi , and P. minor , Lower Risk (lc) as P. lotor .
