Lectotype (designated by Ujhelyi 1959a: 605):— ITALY. Tuscany: Galeata , 12 April 1917, Pampanini s.n. (FI-007054!, isolectotype BP-593476!). Image of lectotype available at http://parlatore.msn.unifi.it/img72/ FI007054 .jpg.

Protologue information:— Romagna Toscana: Galeata.

Nomenclature:— The protologue of Sesleria caerulea var. italica includes a detailed diagnosis, date of collection (12 April), habitat and provenance (“ sul ciglio del muro di sostegno a destra della strada fra Galeata e la località Pianetto, verso S. Sofia ” [on the margin of the weight-bearing wall on the right of the street between Galeata and the locality Pianetto to S. Sofia]). There are two specimens (at FI and BP) bearing the same original labels: “ Herbarium R. Musei Florentini │ Sesleria caerulea var. italica Pamp. (Bull. Soc. Bot. it. 1917) Romagna toscana: Galeata, 12 aprile 1917 R. Pampanini ”. These specimens are syntypes (Art. 9.5 in McNeill et al. 2012). When Ujhelyi (1959a: 605) proposed the new combination S. italica (Pamp.) Ujhelyi , he reported the following: “Typus in Herbario Centrale Italico, Florentiae: Romagna Toscana: Galeata, 12 aprile 1917, leg. R. Pampanini (ut S. coerulea var. italica Pamp. Bull. Soc. Bot. Ital. 1917 )”. On the basis of Art. 7.10, Ujhelyi’s statement can be interpreted as lectotypification. The BP specimen bearing the word “duplum” is an isolectotype.

Taxonomy: —The name Sesleria caerulea var. italica is currently accepted at species rank, S. italica (e.g., Conti et al. 2005).
