8. Sesleria latifolia var. serpentinica Deyl (1946: 99) View in CoL
Lectotype (designated here):— BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA. Vareš : Ad Podzarudje [Podzaruđe], solo serpentinico, 670 m, 12 June 1923, Maly s.n. (SARA-01506!) ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ).
Protologue information:— Area : Bosna. Solo serpentinico. Velež ad Borovnica, Pinetum nigrae, 860 m s.m., 15.V.1921, leg. Malý ; Podzarudje distr. Vareš, 670 m s.m., 12.VI.1923, leg. Malý.
Nomenclature:— Having just a few specimens at his disposal while describing S. latifolia var. serpentinica, Deyl (1946: 99) expressed doubts about whether the observed morphological deviations were related to real taxonomical differences with respect to typical S. latifolia , or if these should be considered as cases of serpentinomorphoses, the result of morpho-anatomical adaptations to serpentine geological substrate (xeromorphous habitus, shorter convolute leaves). We located only one specimen of the original material, and designate it as the lectotype.
Taxonomy:— Molecular and morpho-anatomical investigations aiming to clarify if this variety deserves taxonomic recognition are in progress. This variety is currently treated as a synonym of S. latifolia (Clayton et al. 2016) .
