Subfamily: Tetriginae View in CoL
Paratettix meridionalis (Rambur, 1838)
A relatively frequent, albeit localized species, confined to mesic and hydric environments. The species often occurs in moderately high densities on humid soils within leaf litter and low grasses.
Distribution. Mediterranean-wide distribution; also present in the Canary Islands, the Middle Eastern region and parts of the Eastern Palaearctic region.
[ Tetrix tenuicornis (Sahlberg, 1891) ]
This species was mentioned in an article published in the popular press ( Cilia 1976), without any supporting data and has not been recorded by other scientific workers. All Tetriginae specimens examined (n=62) from the authors’ collections pertained to P. meridionalis . Although further fieldwork may prove otherwise, at this juncture it is assumed that T. tenuicornis was misidentified.
