TYPE MATERIAL. — Holotype IMT 85-19 View Materials [not seen], figured by Kosuge & Suzuki 1985: pl. 4, fig. 3, pl. 29, fig. 4.
TYPE LOCALITY. — South China Sea.
MATERIAL EXAMINED. — North of New Caledonia. LAGON: stn 538, Lagon Nord, 19°07’S, 163°21’E, 195 m, 1 dd (Fig. 60). Futuna. MUSORSTOM 7: stn DW 499, 14°20’S, 178°05’W, 290-395 m, 1 dd GoogleMaps .
DISTRIBUTION. — Western Pacific , from the South China Sea to the Philippines (Kosuge & Suzuki 1985: 15). Northern New Caledonia, Norfolk Ridge, Wallis and Futuna, empty shells in 195-395 m.
REMARKS. — Distinguished from Babelomurex cariniferoides by its coarser sculpture and broader base. Many specimens are difficult to distinguish from B. kinoshitai ( Fulton, 1930) , which has a more angulate base and the spines at the shoulder more curved adapically.
