TYPE MATERIAL. — Coralliophila jeffreysi : holotype BMNH 1878.10.16.19, figured by Kaicher (1985: 3992) . — Coralliophila jeffreysi hiradoensis : 2 syntypes ANSP 85981 (“Types No. 85981”: Pilsbry 1904:16), 1 figured by Kosuge & Suzuki (1985: pl. 46, fig. 2); 1 syntype ANSP 398569.

TYPE LOCALITY. — C. jeffreysi : Japan, Seto Inland Sea, 34°31’N, 133°40’E, 40 m [22 fms: HMS Sylvia expedition Station 22]. — C. jeffreysi hiradoensis: Hirado, Hizen , Japan.

MATERIAL EXAMINED. — Fiji. SUVA 4: stn DW 08, Viti Levu , Beqa Lagoon, 18°22.3’S, 178°02.4’E, 28-30 m, 1 lv (Fig. 7) GoogleMaps .

DISTRIBUTION. — Western Pacific , from southern Japan (Kii Peninsula and Seto Inland Sea and southwards, subtidal to 50 m, on scleractininans and sea fans), Korea and Australia ( Higo et al. 2001). Extended herein to Fiji, live in 28-30 m.

REMARKS. — This species is not commonly reported and it is possible that specimens are mislabelled under C. fearnleyi , which is very similar in shape and sculpture. Coralliophila jeffreysi differs in its stronger spiny projections and the rather coarser spiral sculpture. This species is placed provisionally in Coralliophila s.l. pending more detailed study of its systematics.
