Stethorus proximus Chazeau, 1979: 296 .
Endemic to New Caledonia, it has been recorded from the west coast, where it seems restricted to sclerophyllous forest patches: Nouméa (Ouen Toro), Païta (Mt Nondoué), Pindaï peninsula. It has been seen to feed on Tetranychus neocaledonicus André by Chazeau (1979).
Material examined. NEW CALEDONIA: Nouméa, Ouen-Toro, 23.vi.1977 (J. Chazeau rec.) ( MNHN); Païta, Mt Nondoué, 110m, fogging on sclerophyllous forest, 28.iv.1993 (J. Chazeau, E. Guilbert & L. Bonnet de Larbogne rec.) ( MNHN), Pindaï, 30m, fogging on sclerophyllous forest, 06.x.1992 (J. Chazeau, E. Guilbert & L. Bonnet de Larbogne rec.) ( MNHN).
