Mallomonas matvienkoae Asmund & Kristiansen 1986 emend. E.S. Gusev ( Figs 2–11 View FIGURES 2–11 )

Lectotype (designated here): Fig. 2 View FIGURES 2–11 in Matvienko (1941).

Epitype (designated here): Portion of a single gathering of cells on SEM stub, deposited at the Herbarium, Komarov Botanical Institute RAS (LE), Saint Petersburg, Russia (LE A0006511). Figure 5 View FIGURES 2–11 is a representative scale from the specimen.

Emended diagnosis: Scales oval or obovoid, 3.0–5.0 × 1.7–3.6 µm. A posterior rim encircles about one half of the perimeter on the posterior part of the scale. The anterior part of the scale is surrounded by a thickened edge. Evenly spaced base plate pores cover the whole scale surface. A secondary layer with internal reticulation in the form of small rounded mesh covers the distal one third to one half of the scale, becoming thinner towards the proximal part. One large, rimmed pore is situated in the posterior region and is surrounded by a cluster of minute pores. Bristles 5–12 µm long, smooth and straight, with a slightly expanded serrated distal tip, bristle shaft is tubular, with a longitudinal slit. Cysts unknown.

Epitype reference DNA sample: DNA sample under the name R064 deposited at the Laboratory of Soil Zoology and General Entomology of the A.N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution, Russian Academy of Sciences.

Epitype representative DNA sequences: PP956924 (nuclear SSU rDNA), PP966934 (rbcL cpDNA) and PP958841 (nuclear ITS rDNA).

Epitype locality: Chornaya River, Nizhegorodskaya oblast, Russia. Latitude/Longitude N56°23´41.71´´ E43°46´24.38´´, collected by E. Gusev in October 2015.

Distribution: Based on molecular data, this species is known from Russia and South Korea.
