Diagnosis

Female. Body axis greatly distorted, at least 90°; expanded brood pouch covering more than half of ventral surface; barbula with three unadorned projections on each side; maxilliped completely lacking palp; first oostegite with very slender posterolateral point; pereopodal propodi of typical structure, without sockets to receive tips of dactyli; pleopods 1–4 biramous, pleopod 5 uniramous, all with tubercles dorsally; uniramous uropods similar to pleopods.

Male. Body about three times as long as wide, all body regions and segments deeply separated; dactyli of first pair of pereopods much longer than those of following six pairs; five pairs of pleopods as raised uniramous flaps; uniramous lanceolate uropods extending far posteriorly.

Etymology

Prefix Para (“beside”) combined with genus name Asymmetrione . Gender feminine. Type species, Parasymmetrione tuberculineata sp. nov.
