Molecular study. 4 paratypes sequenced, 3 haplotypes identified, DNA voucher numbers 5339-5342 in ITCZ, GenBank accession numbers MW879304 View Materials - MW879306 View Materials , details are presented in supplementary table S1 .

Diagnostic description. Length mm 1.5-2.0. Integument of body black, legs with femora and tibiae black, tarsi blackish; antennae yellow except slightly darker scape and black club. Rostrum long (Rl/Rw 3.5-3.7), in lateral view slightly curved, thin, in dorsal view with widest point at apex; upper surface smooth at middle, with 2-3 confused rows of punctures only at sides; with two small tubercles at antennal insertion. Antennae with clavate scape, 2.4- 2.6x longer than wide and 1.2-1.3x longer than first funicular segment, which is asymmetrical and irregularly clavate in basal half, 2.0-2.2x longer than wide, as robust as scape and distinctly more robust and 1.3-1.4x longer than second segment which is 1.9-2.0x longer than wide, third and fourth segments 1.9-2.0x longer than wide, fifth-seventh segment transverse. Vertex of head distinctly convex. Eyes distinctly convex and prominent. Pronotum conical, transverse (Pw/Pl 1.75-1.85), widest at base, where the sides are curvilinear, with robust and thick punctures. Elytra suboval, distinctly longer than wide (El/Ew 1.30-1.40), with prominent humeri, at base wider than pronotum (Ew/ Pw 1.15-1.18), widest at apical third, weakly convex; striae clearly distinct, with thick punctures, interstriae slightly convex. Metafemora distinctly globose (l/ w 2.5). Pro- and mesotibiae with robust uncus (l/w 3). First tarsomere 2.2- 2.4x longer than wide, second tarsomere 1.2-1.4x longer than wide, onychium 3.8-4.1x longer than wide. Body of penis with slightly arcuate sides being gradually narrowed from base to apex, slightly emarginate at its base.

Variability. We observed small differences in the length and width of pronotum and elytra among the specimens of the type series

Etymology. This species is named after the famous Sardous hero, Hampsicora, who tried to oppose the Roman conquest of Sardinia in 215 BC.

Comparative notes (see Table 2). This taxon has many characters in common with R. bavierai that allow it to be distinguished from R. oxyacanthae , such as the vertex of the head more convex, the tubercles of the rostrum at base of the antennae less distinct and poorly separated from each other, and the metafemora more globose (see figs, 8, 10, 17). Rhamphus hampiscora differs from R. bavierai only by the shorter tarsi, especially the first tarsomere of the metatarsi (fig. 17), the shape of the pronotum, which is more conical and more transverse, widest at its base and with more curvilinear sides, and the shape of the penis with slightly curved sides.

Host plant. This species was consistently collected by L. Diotti by beating Prunus sp. at the type locality, Monte Albo, and also at Burcei.
