Type Locality: "Arabiae et forte Lybiae proprium animal"; restricted to Arabia (Lydekker, 1914 b:130) .
Vernacular Names: Arabian Oryx.
Distribution: Extinct in Egypt (Sinai Peninsula), Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Syria, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. Maintained in captivity; Middle Eastern breeding stock in Bahrain, Israel, Leban, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and United Arab Emirates. Recently reintroduced to the wild in Oman and Saudi Arabia.
Conservation: CITES – Appendix I; U.S. ESA and IUCN – Endangered.
Discussion: Included in O. gazella by Haltenorth (1963:88). Status reviewed in Mallon and Kingswood (2001).
