1. Aegiphila verticillata Vellozo (1829:37) View in CoL ( Figure 7A View FIGURE 7 )
EOO: 1,618.012 km 2. AOO: 24.000 km 2. IUCN Assessment: Least Concern
This species has a wide distribution in Brazil and was known from all states except Acre, Amapá, Rio Grande do Norte and Rio Grande do Sul ( BFG 2015). Records for Rio Grande do Norte are restricted to eastern coastal Atlantic Forest remnants of semideciduous forest and restinga, including two protected areas, the Santuário Ecológico de Pipa (private reserve), which is part of the “Área de Proteção Ambiental” (APA) Bonfim-Guaraíras, and APA Piquiri-Una. Based on the IUCN (2001) and current records, the species can be classified as EN in the state following the criteria B: 1b (i, ii, iii) B: 2b (i, ii, iii). However, because of the wide distribution of the species in Brazil and the habitat were it occurs, it is better classified as LC, in addition to the fact that the flora of the state is not well known and there more populations might exist.
