EOO: 4,539.324 km 2. AOO: 24.000 km 2. IUCN Assessment: Vulnerable

This species is distributed in the Americas, particularly in the tropics ( Epling 1949), is considered a weed in some countries, and occurs in places disturbed by humans, regardless of soil conditions ( Harley 1985). In Brazil, it is distributed across all regions, in the Amazon, Caatinga, Cerrado and Atlantic Forest phytogeographic domains ( BFG 2015). In the study area, it was collected in savanna areas with stony soils or on rocky outcrops. Only one of the registered populations of M. pectinatum was found in a conservation unit, making this species VU according to the criteria B: 1b (i, ii) ( IUCN 2001).
