Diagnosis. A small to medium sized, slender, almost cylindrical species with strong spiral sculpture between the strong but flattened (blunt) ribs.

Description. Shell greenish, but all available shells were corroded, therefore the original colour was not visible; shell very slender, rather cylindrical, the last whorl is only very slightly wider than the penultimate one; whorls 7.5–8 (n=2) in number, moderately bulging, separated by rather deep suture; protoconch consists of 2 whorls, first half whorl is very finely granulated, glossy; remaining whorls very finely, regularly ribbed; teleoconch also finely, regularly ribbed even behind the aperture, where the ribs are the most widely-spaced; ribs very well visible, their back is flat, not sharp, between the ribs very fine, regular spiral lines can be seen; aperture rounded drop-shaped with a conspicuous, sharply angled parietal-palatal transition; the columellar-parietal transition is only smoothly angled; apertural rim white, strongly widened and slightly reflexed; it consists of thinner slimmer inner and a wider outer circle, which are completely connected to each other, the boundary is very slightly visible only from apertural (frontal) view.

Measurements (in mm). H: 7.8–9.1, D: 3.1–3.4 (n=2).

Differential diagnosis. P. shanensis n. sp. can be distinguished by other Pseudopomatias species by the very slender, almost cylindrical shell and very fine spiral sculpture between the blunt ribs.

Material. Shan States, Woodthorpe, 1895, NHMUK 1903.7.1.1631.1 (holotype), NHMUK 1903.7.1.1631.2 (1 paratype) (note 1903.6.1.1631 is a mislabelling on original box).

Type locality. Shan States.

Etymology. The new species was collected in the "Shan States". The original sample was labelled as " shanense " by Godwin-Austen.

Distribution ( Fig. 11 View FIGURE 11 ): The only sample is labelled as being collected from Shan States ( Myanmar). See also Table 3 View TABLE 3 .
