Urtica dioica Linnaeus , Species Plantarum 2: 984. 1753.

"Habitat in Europae ruderatis." RCN: 7133.

Lectotype (Woodland in Syst. Bot. 7: 283. 1982): Herb. Linn. No. 1111.8 ( LINN) .

Generitype of Urtica Linnaeus (vide Green, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 188. 1929).

Current name: Urtica dioica L. ( Urticaceae ).

Note: Ghafoor (in Jafri & El-Gadi, Fl. Libya 47: 15. 1977) indicated both 1111.7 and 1111.8 (LINN) as type but they are evidently not part of a single gathering, so Art. 9.15 does not apply. Similarly, Bhopal & Chaudhri (in Pakistan Syst. 1(2): 42. 1977) indicated unspecified material in LINN as the holotype but did not distinguish between these sheets.
