Syntrophus renschi (Heller) View in CoL

Trigonops renschi Heller, 1940: 94–95 View in CoL . Type locality: Sumbawa, Batu Dulang.

Syntrophus renschi (Heller) View in CoL : Marshall, 1956: 35.

Description. Lectotype ( Fig. 34a View FIGURE 34 ). Length. Pronotum plus elytron 5.60 mm. Integument dark ferruginous, covered with appressed, yellowish, somewhat salmon colored, microgranulate scales. Head with subangulate, transverse sulcus separating rostral base; vertex posteriorly microreticulate, nude, anteriorly squamose. Rostrum 1.21 X longer than wide, sides subparallel; apical declivity with sunk-in scales, with sparse erect setae; dorsum with subglabrous costa. Antennal funicle with article 2 longer (1.7 X) than article 1. Pronotum as long as wide (1.07 X); coarsely punctate; punctures containing each one single suberect clavate scale; interspaces with appressed scales, forming indistinct reticulate pattern between subglabrous punctures. Elytra 1.25 X as long as wide; dorsally convex; striae distinct; intervals with rows of suberect, subclavate scales, most distinct on apical declivity. Genitalia. Penis ( Fig. 34b View FIGURE 34 ) with sides of body in basal half subparallel, diverging to rounded apex. Apodeme at least 2 X as long as body of penis. Endophallus long, 3 X folded. Transfer apparatus flagelliform, extremely thin. Intraspecific variation. Length. Pronotum plus elytron 5.55–5.70 mm. Integument dark ferruginous to black or light ferruginous in rather teneral specimens.

Material examined. Type specimens. Male , Trigonops renschi Heller , lectotype by present designation: INDONESIA, Sumbawa, BatoeDoelang [= Batu Dulang], 10–15-V-1927, B. Rensch; labels ( Fig. 34c View FIGURE 34 ); condition: left antennal funicle broken and missing; apex of endophallus and apodemes broken and missing; genitalia in glycerol in microtube; DNA extraction ARC4027 View Materials (GenBank # OR557443) ( SMTD) . Paralectotypes: 1 ex, same data as lectotype ( SMTD); 1 ex, Sumbawa, illegible locality ( SMTD) .

Notes. In the original description, no holotype is designated and the number of specimens at hand is not mentioned. Three syntypes were examined. A specimen mentioned from “E-Lombok, Selong” mentioned as part of the type series could not be examined.A lectotype is designated to ensure stability of nomenclature in case additional syntypes belonging to other species are found. Based on morphology, this species is close to, but distinct from S. carinicollis Marshall. The p-distance of the cox1 sequences of S. carinicollis Marshall and S. renschi (Heller) is 14.0%.
