Syntrophus carinicollis (Heller)

Heteroglymma carinicollis Heller, 1914: 306 View in CoL [incorrect original spelling].

Heteroglymma carinicolle Heller, 1914: 306 View in CoL [in key]. Type locality: Sumbawa.

Syntrophus carinicollis ( Heller, 1914) : Marshall, 1956: 31.

Syntrophus costicollis Marshall, 1956: 36 View in CoL . (syn. n.). Type locality: Sumbawa.

Description. Lectotype ( Fig. 33a View FIGURE 33 ). Length. Pronotum plus elytron 4.28 mm. Integument covered with appressed, grey, microgranulate scales, arranged in rosette-shape around punctures. Head with subangulate, transverse sulcus separating rostral base deeply incised and open, ending dorsally near eye; dorsal margin of eye bordered by furrow; vertex smooth, anteriorly with fine median longitudinal impression. Rostrum 1.34 X longer than wide, sides subparallel; apical declivity with sunk-in scales, with sparse erect setae; dorsum simple, with subglabrous midline. Antennal funicle with article 2 longer (1.5 X) than article 1. Pronotum as long as wide (1.01 X); coarsely punctate; medially with glabrous costa. Elytra 1.19 X as long as wide; dorsally convex; with 12 striae plus two short supplementary rows between stria 6 and 7 above declivity; intervals with rows of erect, narrow scales. Venter. Mesoventral process subquadrate, 0.86 X as long as wide. Genitalia. Penis ( Fig. 33b View FIGURE 33 ) with sides of body subparallel, apex rounded. Apodeme 3.03 X as long as body of penis. Endophallus long. Transfer apparatus flagelliform, ca. 3.5 X as long as body of penis.

Material examined. Type specimens. Male, Heteroglymma carinicolle Heller , lectotype by present designation: INDONESIA, Sumbawa; labels ( Fig. 33c View FIGURE 33 ); condition: presumably teneral specimen; right antennal funicle broken and missing; right midleg broken; genitalia in glycerol in microtube; DNA extraction ARC4022 View Materials (DNA degraded) ( SMTD) . Male , Syntrophus costicollis Marshall , lectotype by present designation: INDONESIA, Sumbawa, Bunong Aru Hassa, 2,000–5,000 ft., leg. W. Doherty; labels ( Fig. 33f View FIGURE 33 ); condition: left antennal funicle broken and missing; genitalia in glycerol in microtube; DNA extraction ARC4014 View Materials (GenBank # OR557432) ( BMNH).

Notes. Heller (1914) made the name of Heteroglymma carinicolle available in a key referring to an in litteris name of Faust. Heller inadvertently became the author of this species with the first published description. The number of specimens at hand is not mentioned. Other specimens may exist in addition to the specimen stored at the SMTD, which is considered a syntype and is here designated lectotype to ensure stability of nomenclature. Marshall (1956) based his description of S. costicollis on three males and three females; he did not designate a holotype. The round label stating “ Holotype ” has subsequently been added by the staff of the BMNH and this specimen is designated lectotype to ensure stability of nomenclature. No characters justifying the separation of Syntrophus carinicolle (Heller) and Syntrophus costicollis Marshall could be identified, so both are placed in synonymy.
