Type species: Coptorrhynchus beccarii Pascoe, 1885 , by original designation.

Description. Integument clothed with appressed green scales; with granules bearing long, erect bristles. Head with angulate transverse sulcus separating rostral base, joined by median furrow on forehead. Eyes weakly convex; separated from apex of prothorax by ca. 0.8 X length of eye. Rostrum with apical declivity distinct, with sunk-in scales; dorsal profile subangulate; on same level as forehead. Antenna. Scape slender; in cross-section subrotund; subapically weakly clavate; densely squamose; with erect bristles. Funicle with article 2 slightly shorter (0.8 X) than article 1. Pronotum ca. as long as wide; coarsely punctate-granulate, granules each with one long, erect bristle. Metanepisternum narrow, subglabrous. Elytra subovate, with 10 striae; intervals with granules bearing long, erect bristles. Legs. Protibia ventrally denticulate. Venter. Procoxae subcontiguous, distance to apex 0.5 X distance to base of prothorax. Mesoventral process subtriangular, 3.00 X as long as posterior width. Abdomen. Male ventrites 1–2 subequal to length of ventrites 3–5, medially concave. Female ventrites 1–2 convex. Female ventrites 3–5 exposed, laterally 0.7 X length of ventrites 1–2. Genitalia. Penis ( Fig. 22b View FIGURE 22 ) with apodeme firmly attached to body. Endophallus long, its middle-part armed with numerous spines, subapically with scattered spines. Transfer apparatus spiniform, curved, ca. 0.3 X as long as body of penis.

Notes. Presumably, this genus is the sister group of Piezonotus Schoenherr. The species Coptorhynchus celeutheticus Heller is morphologically quite different from Mesocoptus beccarii (Pascoe) but may have to be included in the same genus based on unpublished molecular evidence.
