Atactoglymma gramineum (Pascoe) View in CoL

Atactoglymma graminea (Pascoe) View in CoL : Marshall (1956): 32.

Isomerinthus gramineus Pascoe 1881: 591 View in CoL . Type locality: Tondano.

Sphaeropterus gramineus (Pascoe) : Synonymy by Marshall (1956): 32.

Atactoglymma spinipes Heller 1900: 22–23 View in CoL . Type locality: Amurang.

Description. Lectotype ( Fig. 7a View FIGURE 7 ). Length. Pronotum plus elytron 5.65 mm. Integument densely covered with green appressed, microgranulate scales. Elytra subovate, 1.40 X as long as wide; above declivity with pair of distinct, somewhat elongate tubercles on intervals 5–7, their apex with clusters of erect brown scales; laterally below tubercles with additional rows of punctures; intervals with indistinct rows of suberect elongate scales. Legs. Femora of ferruginous color, except subbasally and subapically darker. Protibia ( Fig. 7b View FIGURE 7 ) ventrally with ca. 5 distinct denticles, largest denticle slightly behind middle of tibia. Penis ( Fig. 7c View FIGURE 7 ) subapically slightly constricted, with spatulate extension, apex subangulate, somewhat rounded. Ostium with pair of elongate, inwards folded sclerites. Intraspecific variation. Length. Pronotum plus elytron 5.44–6.31. Color of scales yellowish green to turquoise green, in older specimens partially abraded and / or covered with incrustations. Penis with subapical portion in specimens from Tomohon as in lectotype from Tondano, slightly longer and wider than in lectotype from Amurang; in male from Mt. Klabat sharply angulate, possibly representing a distinct species. Female with elytra more roundish, 1.31 X as long as wide.

Material examined Type specimens. Isomerinthus gramineus Pascoe , male, lectotype, by present designation ( Figs. 7a–d View FIGURE 7 ): INDONESIA, N-Sulawesi, Tondano; labels (fig. 7d); condition: fair, formerly pinned through right elytron; genitalia in glycerol in microtube; ARC7525 View Materials (GenBank # OR557462) ( BMNH) . Paralectotype: 1 female, ARC7526 View Materials (not sequenced) , INDONESIA, N-Sulawesi, Manado, genitalia in glycerol in microtube ( BMNH). Atactoglymma spinipes Heller , male, lectotype, by present designation ( Figs. 7e–g View FIGURE 7 ): INDONESIA, N-Sulawesi, Amurang; condition: slightly abraded; formerly pinned through right elytron; protarsi and left hindleg missing; genitalia in glycerol in microtube; apex of endophallus and tips of apodemes broken off and missing; ARC7565 View Materials (not sequenced) ( SMTD) . Paralectotypes: 1 female, same data as lectotype ( SMTD). Other material examined: INDONESIA, N-Sulawesi: 1 ex, ARC7286 View Materials ( GenBank # OR557456) , “12638”, Tomohon, III-1894, Drs. Sarasin ( SMTD) [appears to be part of the type series, but was not mentioned in the original description]; 3 exx, Tomohon, Gn. Notes. In the original descriptions of Isomerinthus gramineus Pascoe , respectively Atactoglymma spinipes Heller , no holotype is designated and the number of specimens at hand is not mentioned. Two syntypes of the former species and one syntype of the latter species were examined. A lectotype is designated for each species to ensure stability of nomenclature in case additional syntypes belonging to other species are found. The genus Isomerinthus Schoenherr is a junior synonym of Sphaeropterus Guérin-Méneville ( Alonso-Zarazaga & Lyal, 1999) . However, this species from Sulawesi is not closely related to the type species of Sphaeropterus , S. albolineatus Guérin-Méneville 1838 from New Guinea. Thus, it needs be placed in a different genus. The species described by Heller (1900) is a junior synonym of Pascoe´s, but the genus name Heller proposed is now combined with Pascoe´s older species name. The gender of Atactoglymma is neuter ( Alonso-Zarazaga & Lyal, 1999), so the species name needs to be Atactoglymma gramineum (Pascoe) . A single specimen from Mt. Klabat has a distinct shape of the apical tip of the penis; it also separates in a molecular phylogeny from all the remaining specimens, although its cox1 p-distance of 3.96% is hardly enough to justify species status by itself. In a more detailed study with additional specimens, the Mt. Klabat population deserves some attention.
