Javaulius carinulifer (Heller) , comb.n.
Heteroglymma carinuliferum Heller 1914: 304 View in CoL . Type locality: Bali, Mt. Bratan .
Heteroglymma carinulifera Heller 1914: 304 . [incorrect original spelling]
Syntrophus carinulifer (Heller) : Marshall, 1956: 31, 130.
Description. Lectotype ( Fig. 16a View FIGURE 16 ). Length. Pronotum plus elytron 4.20 mm. Integument dark ferruginous to black, with dense appressed, greenish, microgranulate scales, not fully covering. Head with distinct subangulate, transverse sulcus separating rostral base; vertex with weak radial wrinkles, covered by scales. Rostrum as long as wide (0.90 X), sides subparallel, weakly converging; apical declivity subglabrous, with sparse erect setae; dorsum punctate-rugose. Antennal funicle with article 2 subequal (1.0 X) to article 1. Pronotum as long as wide (1.01 X); coarsely punctate; interspaces with appressed scales; punctures each with single suberect bristle; with median subglabrous costa. Elytra 1.32 X as long as wide; dorsally weakly convex; striae distinct; intervals with rows of long, suberect, subclavate scales, most distinct on apical declivity; interval 3 in basal half swollen; sutural interval above apical declivity swollen. Venter. Mesoventral process subquadrate, as long as wide (1.00 X). Genitalia. Penis ( Fig. 16b View FIGURE 16 ) with sides of body subparallel, converging to subangulate apex. Apodeme 1.38 X as long as body of penis. Transfer apparatus elongate, spiniform, subapically curved. Intraspecific variation. Length. Pronotum plus elytron 4.12–4.52 mm. Vestiture of scales either greenish or brownish; with more or less extensive incrustations; pronotum may be abraded with suberect bristles remaining. Female elytra 1.15 X as long as wide; dorsally slightly more convex.
Material examined. Type specimens. Male, Heteroglymma carinuliferum Heller , lectotype by present designation: INDONESIA, Bali, Gn. Bratan, 1913, E. Stresemann; labels ( Fig. 16c View FIGURE 16 ); condition: fair; genitalia in glycerol in microtube; DNA extraction ARC4021 View Materials (GenBank # OR557438) ( SMTD) . Paralectotypes: 2 exx, same data as lectotype ( SMTD). Other material examined: INDONESIA, C-Bali: 1 ex, ARC3542 View Materials (GenBank # LN866361) , Bedugul, Gn. Catur, sifted, S08° 15.147´E115° 11.323´, 1930 m, 07-XI-2007 ( SMNK) GoogleMaps .
Notes. In the original description, no holotype is designated and the number of specimens at hand is not mentioned. Three syntypes were examined. A lectotype is designated to ensure stability of nomenclature in case additional syntypes belonging to other species are found. The specimen collected on Gn. Catur differs by 6.2% cox1 p-distance from the lectotype. No morphological differences could be detected. The placement of this species is contentious: morphological characters speak for an inclusion in Javaulius Marshall , while molecular reconstructions place it within Syntrophus Marshall.
