Javaulius Marshall View in CoL

Javaulius Marshall, 1956: 61–62 View in CoL .

Type species: Javaulius setosus ( Marshall, 1925) View in CoL , by original designation.

Description. Integument covered with appressed, microgranulate, polygoniform scales of mosaic-like arrangement, not overlapping; elytra, legs and antennal scape with sparse, erect, narrow or spatulate scales. Head short; with angulate, transverse sulcus separating rostral base deeply incised or rather indistinct; vertex with radial furrows (partly obscured by scales in J. subvirens Marshall and J. rudis Marshall ,). Eyes convex, protruding; separated from apex of prothorax by ca. length of eye. Rostrum. Dorsum medially with longitudinal furrow (indistinct in J. mixtus Marshall ); apical declivity distinct, subglabrous (sparsely squamose in J. subvirens Marshall ); dorsal profile subangulate. Antenna. Scape curved, with erect setae. Funicle with length of article 1 and 2 subequal. Pronotum longer than wide; coarsely punctate to scabrous. Metanepisternum narrow, anteriorly with impression. Elytra subovate; with 12 striae, some abbreviated (only 10 striae in J. subvirens Marshall ). Legs. Protibia ventrally simple, not denticulate. Venter. Procoxae subcontiguous, separated by 0.05 X coxal diameter, positioned slightly closer to apex than base of prothorax. Mesoventral process trapezoid, 1.25 X as long as posterior width. Abdomen. Female ventrites 3–5 exposed, laterally slightly shorter than ventrites 1–2. Genitalia. Penis ( Figs. 16b View FIGURE 16 , 17b View FIGURE 17 , 18b View FIGURE 18 , 19b View FIGURE 19 , 20b View FIGURE 20 , 21b View FIGURE 21 ) with apodeme firmly attached to body. Endophallus Z-folded, near base of body forming ventral diverticulum. Transfer apparatus spiniform, shorter than body of penis.

Notes. Traditionally this genus comprises smaller species, usually inhabiting the leaf litter. All currently described species are from Java and Bali. Javaulius Marshall is closely related to Nusasyntrophus gen. n., Syntrophus Marshall , and Parasyntrophus gen. n.
