Dissomphalus declinatus Alencar & Azevedo , New Species

( Figs. 12–14 View FIGURES 12 – 23. 12 – 14 )

Diagnosis: aedeagus with ventral ramus with apical half narrowing to apex and converging mesad, apex folded; dorsal body with apex wide and much inclined ventrally, outer margin convex, inner margin straight and inclined; crown-process small.

Description: male, body length 3.1mm; LFW 2.5mm. Color: head and mesosoma black; clypeus dark castaneous; metasoma rufous castaneous; antenna light castaneous and gradually darker in distal part; mandible, palpi and legs light castaneous except metacoxa and metafemur darker; wings subhyaline.

Head: mandible tridentate. Clypeus with trapezoidal median lobe, median carina complete. First four antennal segments in ratio of ~19:10:8:9, segment XI 1.5x as long as wide. Frons somewhat coriaceous with small and shallow punctures, separated by 2.0–2.5x their diameter. LH 1.0x WH; WF 0.6x WH; WF 1.2x HE; OOL 1.2x WOT; DAO 0.3x WOT; posterior ocelli distant from crest of vertex 1.6x DAO. Vertex straight with angulate corners; VOL 0.5x HE.

Mesosoma: thoracic dorsum weakly coriaceous, punctures smaller than those of frons. Pronotal disc 0.6x length of mesoscutum, anterior margin carinate. Notaulus complete. Propodeal disc 0.6x as long as wide, irregularly rugose, median carina incomplete; lateral surface of propodeum with striae which become finer posteriorly, declivity areolate. Fore femur 2.7x as long as wide.

Metasoma: tergum II with pair of circular, large and deep lateral depressions, separated by 0.3x their diameter; each depression with dense tuft of convergent setae directed backward; antero-lateral margin with long setae ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 12 – 23. 12 – 14 ). Hypopygium with posterior margin straight.

Genitalia ( Fig. 13–14 View FIGURES 12 – 23. 12 – 14 ): paramere with apex straight and arched mesad, inner surface of apex with distinct long seta, dorsal margin straight with subapical small concavity, ventral margin concave. Basiparamere rounded in ventral view. Cuspis long and arched with rounded apex, digitus with median part wide, arched ventrally, apex thin, apical margin serrate, base with short and small projection directed dorsally. Aedeagus with ventral ramus shorter than dorsal body, laminar, surface horizontal and angulate dorsally, basal half long, inner margin sinuous, outer margin straight, apical half narrow dorsally and converging mesad, apex folded; dorsal body laminar, surface vertical, apex wide and much inclined ventrally, outer margin convex, inner margin straight and inclined; crown-process small. Apodeme of aedeagus not extending beyond subcircular genital ring.

Material examined: HOLOTYPE: male, ECUADOR, Napo, Huahua Sumaco, 44km on Hollin Loreto R[oa]d, [0°37’S 77°35’W], 15–22.XII.1989, M[alaise trap], H. Real, M. and J. Wasbauer col. ( UCDC). PARATYPES: 1 male, PANAMA, Bocas Del Toro, PILA [La Amistad International Park], Wekso, Teribe, [9°23’N 83°14’W], 17–24.X.1999, Malaise trap, 50 m. s. n. m., A. Santos col. ( MIUP).

Variation: some specimens have the frons coriaceous, median carina of propodeal disc complete.

Comments: this species is easily recognized by having ventral ramus of aedeagus with basal half long, apical half strongly narrow and converging mesad, apex folded, dorsal body with apex wide and much inclined ventrally.
