Bathymetric distribution: 0–77 m —SW.
Geographical distribution: USA (North Carolina) to Brazil (MA to SC; FN, Atol das Rocas and Abrolhos islands), Ascension Island, Sta. Helena Island; western Europe—WGD.
Remarks: This species has been referred as P. radians (Lamarck, 1819) (e.g., Rios 1970, 1975, 1985, 1994, 2009), C. ferruginea Reeve, 1846 , and C. variegata Reeve, 1847 ( Métivier 1967b), all of them considered synonyms of P. cristella ( Huber 2010a) .
