Bathymetric distribution: 4–150 m —SW.
Geographical distribution: USA (North Carolina) to Argentina —WGD.
Remarks: Two species of Pteria are often recorded from Brazil, P. colymbus and P. hirundo (Linnaeus, 1758) , both considered valid species. Following Domaneschi & Lopes (1986b), only one species is here considered, P. colymbus , excluding P. hirundo .
