Bathymetric distribution: 40–90 m —SW.
Geographical distribution: USA (North Carolina) to Brazil (AP to ES; Abrolhos and Trindade islands)—WGD.
Remarks: This species was refereed from Brazil as Chlamys munda ( Reeve, 1853) (e.g., Bavay 1913; FischerPiette & Testud 1967a; Rios 1985), a species considered a homonym of C. mundus (M'Coy, 1844) (this latter a fossil species from Ireland). Waller (1993) considered C. munda ( Reeve, 1853) a synonym of S. benedicti .
