Geographical distribution: USA (Florida) to Brazil —C/B.

Remarks: Crassostrea rhizophorae (Guilding, 1828) has been mentioned in the catalogs of Rios (1970, 1975, 1985, 1994, 2009), but Amaral & Simone (2014) suggested its exclusion from the list of species occurring in Brazil, arguing that C. rhizophorae is a species restrict to Caribbean region, and that the Brazilian one would be a new species, described as C. mangle Amaral & Simone, 2014 . However, Ferreira et al. (2023) investigated anatomical traits and molecular markers and showed a high correlation between the Caribbean C. rhizophorae and the Brazilian C. mangle , suggesting they are synonymous.
