Type Locality: Dem. Rep. Congo, "Bunkeya River, Shaba Province".
Vernacular Names: Moonshine Shrew.
Synonyms: Crocidura electa Dollmann 1910 ; Crocidura garambae Heim de Balsac and Verschuren 1968 ; Crocidura inyangai Lundholm 1955 ; Crocidura johnstoni Dollmann 1915 ; Crocidura schistacea Osgood 1910 ; Crocidura umbrosa Dollman 1915 .
Distribution: Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, E Angola, Dem. Rep. Congo, Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: A uniform group of bluish-gray shrews that exhibit a considerable geographic size variation; probably a composite group. Revised by Dippenaar and Meester (1989). Does not include macmillani , raineyi , and selina . In a biochemical comparison, specimens from Rwanda grouped outside all other African Crocidura studied (Maddalena, 1990).
