Diagnosis

Body with dorsal carinae on pereion, pleon and/or urosomite variable, but always on urosomite 1. Upper lip lobes asymmetric. Mandible incisor broad, smooth or dentate. Lower lip with or without inner lobes, distal margin broad, setose; outer distal corner with a short acute projection. Maxilla 1 palp 2-articulate, variously expanded, distally with closely spaced robust setae and a short row of slender setae. Maxilla 2 inner plate with medial setae distinct from distal setae, inner plate almost as wide as long. Maxilliped medial margin setose, inner plate extending past distal margin of palp article 1. Gnathopods 1–2 simple or weakly subchelate. Gnathopod 1 slightly larger than gnathopod 2. Telson entire, distal margin smoothly sculpted (adapted from Holman and Watling 1983).
