Type Locality: Java, probably near Banjuwangi (far eastern Java; see Lyon, 1913:106).
Vernacular Names: Horsfield's Treeshrew.
Synonyms: Tupaia balina Thomas 1913 ; Tupaia bogoriensis Sody 1937 ; Tupaia occidentalis Robinson and Kloss 1918 ; Tupaia tjibruniensis Sody 1937 .
Distribution: Indonesia: Bali, Java, W Sumatra, and Nias.
Conservation: CITES – Appendix II; IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Chasen (1940) and Hill (1960) offered opinions on subspecific taxonomy, but more study is needed. Known from Nias by a single specimen ( Lyon, 1913:106).
