Chorology.
Described from the Talish Mountains ( Puthz 1972d: 127), Stenus caspius has its main distribution in Transcaucasia and the South Caspian mountain ranges from Georgia as far east as the Turkmeno-Khorasanian mountains. It apparently is the most common Stenus in the Hyrcanian zone in the northern slopes of the Talish and Elburz Mountains, but it was also found outside of this biogeographical unit in West Azarbaijan, the northern Zagros Mountains, and south of the Elburz (Fig. 8 View Figures 7–12 ).
Biogeographical characterization.
Judging from this distribution pattern, Stenus caspius is a typical expansive Caspian faunal element.
