Lycopodium clavatum L. var. minarum Christ (1900: 41) . Type:— BRAZIL: Minas Geraes: Serra do Caparaó, 1800 m, Schwacke 12001 (P, lectotype, designated by Øllgaard & Windisch (2014: 300)); Serra do Picú, Schenk 1522 (P).

Lycopodium clavatum L. var. equisetoides Nessel (1927: 438) . Types:— BRAZIL: Minas Geraes: Wawra (W, not seen); São Paulo: Grossmann 36, 1904 (not located); Paraná: Dusén s. n. 18/11/898 (S, not seen, illustrated in Nessel (1955: fig. 103), presumably showing a duplicate specimen from S now in BONN-Herb. Nessel).

Distribution: Almost cosmopolitan, in humid temperate and boreal regions of the northern hemisphere, and on tropical mountains of the Old and New World. Not known from Australia.
