Calamus hainanensis C. C. Chang & L. G. Xu in Miau Ru-huai (1981: 116). Type:— CHINA. Hainan: Qiong Zhong county, Mao Yang Gong She Mao road, 5 November 1973, Huang Shan Xu & Shi Shen Fu 4 (holotype SYS!).
Rachises 32.9(22.7–50.0) cm long; pinnae 13(10–15) per side of rachis; middle pinnae 1.8(1.0–3.0) cm wide.
Distribution and habitat:— Bangladesh, northeastern India, northern Myanmar, China (Hainan, Yunnan), and Laos in lowland or montane forest at 776(291–1300) m elevation.
Taxonomic notes:— Calamus hainanensis is included here; it does not differ in any character state from subsp. gracilis .
