Distribution. Holarctic, transcontinental in Canada, listed as A/Sw ( Klimaszewski et al. 2021). Canada: AB, BC, LB, MB, NB, NF, NS, ON, PE, QC, SK, YT. USA: AK, AZ, CA, CO, DC, FL, GA, IA,ID, IL, IN, KS, MA, ME, MI, MN, MO, MT, NH, NC, NJ, NM, NY, NV, OK, OR, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WA, WI, WY.
Collection and Habitat data. In NH adults were captured in cow and pig dung and in beach wrack. Adults were taken from July to September, with a Maine specimen taken in February. In ON one specimen was found under carrion. Elsewhere found in agricultural fields, pastures, forests, coastal limestone barrens, and at sea beaches under beach drift material and decaying sea wrack ( Klimaszewski et al. 2018). Adults taken in human feces and other animal droppings such as cow, horse, dog, woodchuck, moose, coyote; also in carcasses of dead animals such as deer, squirrel, and coyote. Other sites of collections have been in rotting fungi, in moss and decaying vegetable matter; some specimens emerged from cabbage and radish maggots ( Diptera , Anthomyiidae ) ( Klimaszewski 1984, Klimaszewski et al. 2018).
