Remarks: This and a number of other species with Nearctic and Eastern Palaearctic distributional ranges and peculiar chaetotaxy and postantennal organ ( C. horrida , C. loricata , C. krafti , C. virga , C. vulgaris , C. wallmoi , etc.) were previously combined in the genus Mitchellania Wray, 1953 (also known as Cyclograna Yosii, 1961) related to Ceratophysella . Skarżyński & Christiansen (2008) sunk Mitchellania into Ceratophysella because some species with intermediate characteristics do exist. Nevertheless, we are not sure that this decision is fully reasonable. The whole group appears to be rather natural, with common ranges and a number of unique characters not typical of other species of Ceratophysella .
General distribution: Nearctic.
