Lasiodera trifasciata ( Laporte, 1836) ( Figs. 20, 25 View Figs , 38 View Figs , 47 View Figs )
Clerus trifasciatus Laporte 1836: 47 . Type locality: Brazil. The number of specimens available available to Laporte when he made his description is unknown. Therefore, I invoke Recommendation 73F of the ICZN (1999) and
designate a lectotype, a female labeled “ Brésil ” and deposited in ZMHB .
Enoplium trifasciatus (Laporte) : Klug 1842: 362.
Pelonium cleroides Spinola 1844: 374 .
Pelonium trifasciatus (Laporte) : Lacordaire 1857:
table 46, fig. 5; Desmarest 1852: fig. 183; Schenkling 1906: 312.
Lasiodera trifasciata (Laporte) : Blackwelder 1945: 389; Corporaal 1950: 278; Ekis 1975: 52.
Diagnosis. Specimens of this species are superficially similar to those of L. rufipes , from which they differ in the minutely punctate pronotal disc. Also, all of the available specimens of L. trifasciata have black legs. The legs are red in examined specimens of L. rufipes . In general, specimens of L. trifasciata have a more robust body than those of L. rufipes .
Redescription. Size: Length 16.0 mm; width 5.5 mm. Form: As in Fig. 47 View Figs . Color: Mostly black, except first 3 antennomeres testaceous ventrally, elytra mostly yellow, each elytron with 3 black fasciae that traverse sutural margin. Head: Frons vested with white setae, epicranium densely vested with black setae; funicular antennomeres filiform, antennomeres 9 and 10 triangular, antennomere 11 sublunulate ( Fig. 20 View Figs ); eyes small, narrower than width of frons (EW/FW = 30/50); cranium finely punctate. Thorax: Pronotum ( Fig. 25 View Figs ) quadrate (PW/ PL = 130/130), lateral margins with a tubercle; elytral disc without asetiferous punctures; EL/EW = 340/90; protibial anterior margin spinose. Abdomen: Pygidium scutiform; aedeagus as in Fig. 38 View Figs ; phallobasic rod bipartite, phallobasic rod plate broad.
Variation. Size: Length 11.0–17.0 mm; width 4.0–5.5 mm. The most basal black fascia may be reduced or absent.
Distribution. I examined 10 specimens from: BRAZIL: Estado do S~ ao Paulo, San Bocaina, S. Jose Barreiro, XI-1969, Alvarenga & Seabra; Estado do Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro ( Fig. 48 View Fig ). Specimens are deposited in AMNH, BMNH, FMNH, FSCA, MNHN, USNM, WFBM, and WOPC.
Notes. I did not examine the type of this species, but the description is sufficiently clear to allow reliable species identification.
