Distribution. Mexico to northwestern South America.

Distribution in Colombia. Boyacá, Cundinamarca, Huila, Magdalena, Risaralda, and Valle del Cauca.

Remarks. Rhyssocephala splendens has the dorsal surface of the head bicolorous, metallic green basally becoming orange to red distally at least on the apices of the mandibular plates.
