Ancistrocerus Wesmael 1836 View in CoL , is here regarded as not occuring in Australia. This is a very widespread genus, with the majority of species Holarctic, but also with species in the Neotropics, Afrotropics and Oriental Region. Ancistrocerus fluvialis (de Saussure 1855) View in CoL was described from la Nouvelle Hollande, but the generic concept was much broader then, and the type has not been re-examined (and may be lost; see Borsato 2003). Giordani Soika (1962 [1961]) considered the presence of this genus in Australia as dubious. Borsato (2003: 555) reported an undescribed species from Sydney, but in the absence of other specimens this is likely to be a labeling error. We are listing A. fluvialis View in CoL among the species dubiae.
