Description. Shell small, moderately broad fusiform, thin shelled, with high, markedly gradate spire and narrow sutural shelf. Large, low conical multispiral protoconch of three convex whorls, terminating in moderately deep sinusigera. Protoconch microsculpture of delicate, close-set axial ribs, most prominent below mid-whorl, adapically fading out. Teleoconch of four whorls, separated by deeply incised suture. Spire whorls subcylindrical. Wide spaced, orthocline axial ribs on all teleoconch whorls. Adapical tips of axial ribs forming prominent spiny nodes, which unite into adsutural spiral cord. Last whorl subcylindrical with strongly constricted base. Spiral sculpture of weak spiral cords restricted to siphonal fasciole. Aperture moderately wide. Outer lip thin. Anal canal not preserved. Siphonal canal moderately long, narrow. Columella twisted forming distinct fold. Columellar callus thin, very weakly developed. Parietal callus not developed.
Shell measurements and ratios. SL: 5.0– 5.2 mm, MD: 2.1–2.3 mm, AA: 34–39°, SL/MD: 2.3–2.4, AL/AW: 3.1–3.5, LWH/AH: 1.3.
Discussion. Atilia (Scabrella) dumasi Cossmann, 1901 , from the Langhian of the Aquitaine Basin, is superficially similar with Bellacolumbella katharinae but has a pointed protoconch, a centrally thickened outer lip and a deeply incised anal canal. We have no information if the protoconch of the French species is smooth or sculptured and its generic placement remains unsolved.
Palaeoenvironment. The specimens derive from clays of the Baden Formation, suggesting middle to outer neritic environments of up to 250 m water depth ( Hohenegger et al. 2008).
Distribution in Central Paratethys. Badenian (middle Miocene): North Alpine-Carpathian Foreland Basin: Hrušovany nad Jevišovkou, (the Czech Republic); Vienna Basin: Sedlec (Porzteich), Rudice (the Czech Republic); Eisenstadt-Sopron Basin: Forchtenau ( Austria), Sopron ( Hungary); Bükk Mountains: Borsodbóta ( Hungary) ( Csepreghy-Meznerics 1969); Făget Basin: Coşteiu de Sus ( Romania) ( Boettger 1906).
Genus Asytris H. Adams & A. Adams, 1853
Type species. Buccinum rosaceum Gould, 1840 . Subsequent designation by Cossmann (1901: 238). Present-day, Western Atlantic.
