Neoseiulus coatesi (Schultz) View in CoL
( Fig. 9 View FIGURE 9 )
Amblyseius (Amblyseius) coatesi Schultz, 1972: 13 .
Amblyseius (Amblyseius) coatesi . — Ueckermann & Loots, 1988: 130.
Neoseiulus coatesi View in CoL . — Chant & McMurtry, 2003a: 27; Moraes et al., 2004: 113. Material examined. Kenya, 1 female, Nyeri, Central Province, altitude 1600 m, July 12, 2004 (El-Banhawy).
Female: Dorsal shield reticulated, 340 long, 170 wide. Measurements of dorsal setae: j1, j3 16, j4, j5 9, j6, J2 12, J5 9, z2, z416, z5 15, Z1 14, Z4 22, Z5 101, s418, S2 16, S4 30, S5 30, r3 21, R1 16, JV5 45. Seta Z 5 serrated, remaning setae smooth. Peritrematal shield fused anteriorly with dorsal shield, reaching level of j3. Sternal shield reticulated, posterior margin slightly concave, distances between St I-St III 76 , St II-St II 55 , St IV on small platelets. Genital shield reticulated, 70 wide. Ventri-anal shield pentagonal, reticulated, 120 long, 80 wide, with a pair of small round pre-anal pores and three pairs of pre-anal setae (JV1, JV2, ZV2). A pair of metapodal platelets, two pairs of sigillar sclerites and four pairs of setae surrounding ventri-anal shield. Fixed digit of chelicera with six teeth, movable digit with two teeth. Spermatheca calyx bell-shaped, 12 long, atrium small, major duct as wide as atrium. Macrosetae, Sge IV 17 , Sti IV 25 , St IV 41 . Chaetotaxy : genu II 2 , 2 / 0, 2/1, 1, genu III 1 , 2 /1, 2/0, 1.
Remarks. The female holotype and male paratype were collected from George, South Africa, November 23, 1965 ( Schultz, 1972). In South Africa it was collected in four of the nine provinces, namely: Eastern Cape Province, KwaZulu/Natal Province, Mpumalanga Province and Free State Province ( Ueckermann & Loots, 1988). The specimen from Kenya showed some differences. For example, its peritreme reaches to j3 instead of level between j1 and j3, the dorsal setae are shorter than those of the holotype, and only one pair of metapodal platelets is present.
Neoseiulus mukurweinensis El-Banhawy & Knapp n. sp.
( Fig. 10 View FIGURE 10 )
Material examined. Holotype female, Mt. Elgon National Park, Western Province, Bamboo Zone , altitude 2700 March 15, 2005 (El-Banhawy).
Female: Dorsal shield reticulated, 390 long, 210 wide. Measurements of dorsal setae: j1, j3 14, j4, j5 10, j6 14, J2 18, J5 9, z2, z4, 14, z5 10, Z1 14, Z4 28, Z5 60, s4 24, S2, S4 23, S5 26, r3 20, R1 23, JV5 27. Peritrematal shield fused anteriorly with dorsal shield, reaching level of j1. Sternal shield reticulated, distances between St I-St III 103 , St II-St II 65 , St IV on small platelets. Genital shield 80 wide. Ventri-anal shield reticulated, almost as long as wide at level of ZV2, 145 long, 120 wide across level of ZV2, 90 across level of anus, with a pair of elliptical pre-anal pores close to each other, and three pairs of pre-anal setae (JV 1, JV2, ZV2). Two pairs of metapodal platelets, two pairs of sigillar sclerites and four pairs of setae surrounding ventri-anal shield. Fixed digit of chelicera with seven teeth, movable digit with two teeth. Spermatheca calyx short bell-shaped, 9 long, 5 wide, atrium inconspicuous, major duct as wide as calyx. Macroseta, St IV 46 . Chaetotaxy: genu II 2 , 2 / 0, 2/1, 1, genu III 1 , 2 /1, 2/0, 1.
Remarks. This species is similar to Neoseiulus benjamini Schicha , except for the spermatheca and the ventrianal shield, almost as long as wide and with conspicuous pre-anal pores. The male is unknown.
