Neoseiulus krugeri (Van der Merwe) View in CoL
( Fig. 13 View FIGURE 13 )
Amblyseius (Amblyseius) krugeri Van der Merwe, 1968: 130 ; Ueckermann & Loots, 1988: 155.
Neoseiulus krugeri View in CoL . — Chant & McMurtry, 2003a: 23; Moraes et al., 2004: 127.
Material examined. Kenya, 1 female, Salient main Road, Mt . Kenya, July 13, 2004 (El -Banhawy) .
Female: Dorsal shield reticulated, 400 long, 195 wide. Measurement of dorsal setae: j1 14, j3 21, j4 12, j5, j6 12, J2 14, J5 12, z2, z4 16, z5 12, Z1 23, Z4 35, Z5 110, s4 28, S2 30, S4, S5 35, r3 20, R1 25, JV5 45. Peritrematal shield fused anteriorly with dorsal shield, reaching level of j1. Sternal shield reticulated, distances between St I-St III 74 , St II-St II 60 , St IV on platelets. Genital shield 70 wide. Ventri-anal shield reticulated, 140 long, 115 wide (L/W ratio 1.2: 1), with a pair of closely associated elliptical pre-anal pores and three pairs of pre-anal setae (JV1, JV2, ZV2). Two pairs of metapodal platelets, two pairs of sigillar sclerites and four pairs of setae surrounding ventri-anal shield. Fixed digit of chelicera with four teeth, movable digit with one tooth. Spermatheca calyx trumpet shaped, 18 long, atrium nodular. Macrosetae, Sge IV 32 , Sti IV 35 , St IV 62 . Chaetotaxy: genu II 2 , 2 / 0, 2/1, 1, genu III 1 , 2 /1, 2/0, 1.
Remarks. The female holotype was collected from Kruger National Park, Mpumlanga Province, South Africa, October 4, 1963 ( Van der Merwe, 1968). The male paratype was collected from Swartkoppiespruit, South Africa, February 8, 1979 ( Ueckermann & Loots, 1988). It has also been recorded from Lesotho December 10, 1996 (El- Banhawy). In the Kenyan specimen the primary metapodal platelet is selender and the ventri-anal shield is pentagonal; in the type specimen the first is triangular and the second is oval shape.
Neoseiulus lirhandae El-Banhawy & Knapp n. sp.
( Fig. 14 View FIGURE 14 )
Material examined. Holotype female, Chogoria gate, Mt. Kenya, Central Province, altitude 3000m, July 16, 2004 (El-Banhawy) . Paratype male and two paratypes females from the same locality .
Female: Dorsal shield laterally striated, 330 long, 200 wide, with six pairs of large pores. Measurements of dorsal setae: j1 23, j3 40, j4 16, j5 14, j6 18, J2 16, J5 10, z2 23, z4 28, z5 12, Z1 23, Z4 55, Z5 75, s4 46, S2 48, S4 23, S5 25, r3 35, R1 23, JV5 45. Setae Z 4 and Z5 serrated, remaining setae smooth. Peritrematal shield fused anteriorly with dorsal shield, reaching level of j1. Sternal shield smooth, posteriorly concave, distances between St I-St III 65 , St II-St II 65 , St IV on platelets. Genital shield 75 wide. Ventri-anal shield 100 long, 85 wide (L/W ratio 1.2: 1) with a pair of elliptical pre-anal pores mesad to JV2 and three pairs of pre-anal setae (JV1, JV2, ZV2). Two pairs of metapodal platelets, two pairs of sigillar sclerites and four pairs of setae surrounding ventri-anal shield. Fixed digit of chelicera with 8–9 teeth, movable digit with two teeth. Spermatheca calyx trumpet shaped, 16 long, 5 wide, atrium small, 3 long. Macrosetae, Sge IV 44 , Sti IV 27 , St IV 60 . Chaetotaxy : genu II 2 , 2 /0, 2/0, 1, genu III, 1, 2/1, 2/0, 1.
Male: Chaetotaxy of dorsal shield as in female. Ventri-anal shield reticulated, 110 long, 145 wide, with a pair of elliptical pre-anal pores close to each other and six pairs of pre-anal setae. Spermadactyle straight, shaft 20 long.
Remarks. This species is similar to Neoseiulus (= Amblyseius ) peltatus (Van der Merwe) in the shape of the ventri-anal shield and spermatheca, however, dorsal chaetotaxy is different in these two species.
