Range: —Antilles; southern Mexico to Bolivia (BE, CO, LP) and Amazonian Brazil; Cocos and Galápagos Islands.

Ecology: —Locally fairly common; epiphytic, rarely on rocks in open habitats such as on ridges, in humid forests; 1400–2000 m.

Notes: — Schwartsburd et al. (2016) opined that this species does not occur at all in South America and restricted the species range to the Antilles, southern Mexico and Mesoamerica; pending further studies, we retain the name for Andean plants.
