This species occurs from Trinidad and Panama to Brazil ( Govaerts et al. 2010); it is widely distributed throughout its range ( Sobral et al. 2010).

Trees to shrubs 5–7 m tall. This species differs from other Myrcia species by having leaves 4–8 × 2.5–4.5 cm, a sulcate midvein on the adaxial lamina surface, 6–8 pairs of secondary veins; acuminate and unequal calyx lobes, 4 larger (2 mm long), 1 shorter (1 mm long) and subglobose fruit.
